Kerry Film Festival to serve up another cinematic treat as part of Culture Night 2017

Presented with kind permission of the Edwards Macliammóir Estate and as part of the nationwide events taking place on Culture Night September 23rd Kerry Film Festival has a rare treat for movie fans with the screening of Irish short film Return to Glennascaul starring Orson Welles in Killarney Cinema at 7:00pm.
The first Irish short film to be nominated for an Oscar this is a simply a must see for fans of short film who enjoy a good ghost story.
Return to Glennascaul tells the story of Orson Welles (playing himself ) driving in the Irish countryside one night when he offers a ride to a man with car trouble. The man relates a strange event that happened to him at the same location.
Shot in Ireland in 1953, with Welles on a financially enforced break whilst filming Othello, this short was directed by his long-time friend and collaborator Hilton Edwards, founder of the Gates Theatre in Dublin, where Welles began his acting career.
Welles narration encapsulates the audience throughout the 23 minute running time and is an example of the rare capturing and retelling of an old Irish ghost story for the big screen.
When Return to Glennascaul was released in theatres it was extremely popular in the UK and the US, where it soon became known as "Orson Welles' Ghost Story". It's success eventually leading to a nomination for Best Short Subject at the Academy Awards.
This is a rare and unique chance for film fans to catch this Academy Award winning short in all it's glory in Cinema Killarney on Culture Night thanks to Kerry Film Festival and best of all like all events on Culture Night it's FREE!
