What movies to watch this weekend?

In the Cinema:

The Meg
The Stath, a feast of CGI and a giant shark - What's not to love? With critics at least seeing this film for what it is  - a popcorn munching B-movie caper that will entertain the masses for a few hours, reviews have been reasonably kind for a film that will probably be forgotten about this time next week!

Streaming:

Loving Vincent (Netflix)
This highly original feature-length painted animation (the first film of its kind) explores the life and unusual death of Vincent Van Gogh via depictions of his artworks has been heralded by critics for it's visual beauty and ambition. With a cast that includes Chris O'Dowd and Saoirse Ronan it made it's Netflix debut last week and is one to keep an eye on.

On Telly

Fruitvale Station (Channel 4 Sunday 12th August 00:15)
Winner of both the Grand Jury Prize for dramatic feature and the Audience Award for U.S. dramatic film at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, this true story written and directed by Black Panther's Ryan Coogler is a passionate and powerful piece of film that contains an incredible performance from Michael B. Jordan in the central role.
