5. Phantom Thread
Daniel Day Lewis swansong, this P.T. Anderson directed feature has generated a lot of awards buzz with the lead actor, director and supporting actress gaining multiple nominations.Worth seeing just to lament what will be a huge loss to the acting world on the Wicklow native's impending retirement.
4. Lady Bird
This semi-autobiogrpahical tale from director Greta Gerwig has been earning high praise for it's stellar performances from it's highly talented cast with Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf in particular excelling in this feature. A quirky coming of age tale that will delight audiences this is definitely one to see this month.
3. I, Tonya
Directed by Craig Gillespie this incredible true and infamous story of ice skater Tonya Harding gets a retelling that will floor most audience members as our historical recollections of this fthe Harding/Kerrigan rivalry and fall out are vastly challenged. Incredible performances from Margot Robbie and Alison Janney add to this interesting feature.
2. The Shape of Water
With 13 Oscar nominations behind it, this latest vehicle from Guillermo del Toro will surely be the film on everyone's lips come Oscar time. A creation like only del Toro can this fantastical tale includes some quite incredible visuals that are matched by the strong acting performances on show with Sally Hawkins and Richard Jenkins in particular catching the eye.
1. Roman J. Israel Esq.
Written and directed by Dan Gilroy, this dramatic law thriller sees Denzel Washington in top form and earn yet another Oscar nomination which in itself is surely enough to catch this one this February in what is shaping up to be another great month at the cinema.
