Tralee Omniplex Tuesday Treat - What new release movie deserves your €6 this week?

There is just the one new release for your consideration for this weeks Tuesday Treat at Tralee Omniplex and it is the latest from iconic French director Luc Besson. There are also a lot of quality features on show (which may be on their last showings at Tralee Omniplex so hurry!) such as Dunkirk, War for the Planet of the Apes, Cardboard Gangsters and Spiderman:Homecoming so plenty to view at Tralee Omniplex this Tuesday with every showing costing only €6!

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets:
The new feature film from legendary director Luc Besson based on the ground-breaking comic book series which inspired a generation of artists, writers and filmmakers hits our cinema screens this weekend and initial reviews are mixed. The stunning visuals just about compensate for a less than inspiring narrative which just might be enough to entertain the cinema going masses.

And the Secret Screening Movie for Tralee Omniplex is ...... Atomic Blonde

Teased by hints via social media on the days leading up to Tralee Omniplex's first Secret Screening the pieces had begun to fit together and I had a sneaky feeling that the feature on show may be David Leitch directed Atomic Blonde and as the curtain rose to a stomping 80's soundtrack and a world of cold war espionage, I was proved right as the 115 min action thrill ride got under way to it's eager audience.
I will review the film itself in detail later on this week but the whole concept of the Secret Screening is one which was indeed deemed very popular in this particular movie theatre as most seats were full for this "surprise" showing.
The price of €10 for a cinema ticket, medium popcorn and medium soft drink is very appealing for cinema goers and the opportunity to get to see a preview showing of a big budget feature adds to the appeal!
The fact that the audience doesn't know what film they are about to watch also amplifies the attraction of this great offer from Omniplex Cinemas.
With the first secret screening almost full to capacity, this successful outing should hopefully be the first of many Secret Screenings at Tralee Omniplex!

This weeks Top Movies on the Telly

American History X - (ITV4 Monday 7th August 22:00)
A powerful and compelling drama from director Tony Kaye and featuring a career high performance from the magnificent Ed Norton this film is gripping and one that will stay in your memory long after the final credits roll. Worthy of repeated (if at times uncomfortable) viewing.

Groundhog Day - (SKY 1  Tuesday 8th August 21:00)
This is one of my all time favourite comedies as Bill Murray steals every scene as the grumpy newscaster Phil Connors caught in the same day over and over again. Smart, sweet and most importantly infectiously funny, this is simply a comedy classic from beginning to end!

Terminator 2: Judgement Day - (ITV4 Wednesday 9th August 22:15)
A chance to see this blockbuster classic on the small screen before it's limited big screen re-release, this James Cameron directed film combines groundbreaking special effects with sharp storytelling and characters that the audience can relate to. Cinematic nostalgia was never so much fun!

Review: Dunkirk: Believe the hype - Dunkirk is one of the years best!

With every movie theater showing trailers for Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk since about January of this year, to claim that this was one of the most anticipated movies of the year would be a huge understatement. But more importantly, was this film worth all the hype and has this director kept his rich vein of form going to produce a film worthy of it's hugely historical relevance? The answer thankfully is a most definite yes, as Nolan delivers quite simply one of the movies of the year.
This 107 minute feature deals with the evacuation of Allied troops from the French city of Dunkirk during World War II before Nazi forces could take hold and submerges it's audience in the harrowing events of the time.
In fact, Nolan engulfs his audience in this film to the point that those that suffering from motion sickness of any kind may occasionally find this an uncomfortable watch.
Hans Zimmers heart stomping score and Hoyte Van Hoytema's breathtaking cinematography also contribute to this powerful yet harrowing tale that grips the senses and emotions of it's audience and immerses them fully in this traumatic time in world history.
The exceptional cast (which include Tom Hardy, Kenneth Brannagh and Mark Rylance) also add to this feature, by letting their mannerisms and facial expressions take precedence over vast amounts of dialogue as the viewer is subjected first hand to the horrors and personal cost of war.
Comparisons to Saving Private Ryan are inevitable as both films deal with the terror of war in a unique and highly personal and engulfing fashion attacking the viewers senses in a violent and frighteningly realistic manner but in my opinion Dunkirk is an upgrade on Spielberg's 1998 feature.
An combination of superb storytelling, stunning visuals and a magnificent score in the hands of such a magnificent film maker who seems to improve with each feature he directs produces a near two hour edge of your seat thrill ride that will hold it's place quite comfortably on most cinema goers top five list of films seen in 2017. A triumph
