If you're only going to watch one Sci-Fi movie this week it should be.....Moon

Proving that the creative apple doesn't fall far from the tree, David Bowie's offspring Duncan Jones in his first directorial outing delivers a compelling and thought provoking sci-fi thriller that has a feel of those old classic 1970's sci-fi films permeating throughout.
The premise deals with an astronaut miner (played by Sam Rockwell) extracting the precious moon gas that promises to reverse the Earth's energy crisis who nearing the end of his three-year contract, suddenly makes an ominous personal discovery.
Jones gets the pacing just right as the tension mounts in a well guided and subtle manner and similarities with such other classic sci-fi thrillers such as Alien and 2001: A Space Odyssey would not be far from the mark as the viewer is engrossed in this claustrophobic and haunting tale made all the more engaging by an incredible turn by undoubtedly one of Hollywood's most underrated actors,Sam Rockwell.
Rockwell delivers a moving and heartfelt performance as he battles his demons in isolation. His is a performance that should have seen him unquestionably Oscar nominated as his emotional depth is what drives this highly original tale from start to finish,
The fact that the budget for this film was $2.5 million and it was a first time effort by a young British director containing an exceptional lead role from an actor that wouldn't have been considered A-list by any means makes this cinematic achievement all the more impressive.
If you are tired of all the CGI effects, poor plot lines and cliched elements a lot of big budget sci-fi thrillers than this change of pace, original and absorbing film may just be for you!
